The residence of Tyyne-Kerttu Virkki, located in Töölö’s Merikannontie, offers visitors a view into the Modernistic interior trends and design of the early 1950s. Handicraft counsellor Tyyne-Kerttu Virkki (1907–2000) was a promoter of handicraft culture, operating as a teacher, writer, entrepreneur and artist in the textile industry.

Virkki’s restored residence portrays the period’s prevailing ideal of functionality. Back then, the heavy furniture sets were replaced by skilfully designed furniture, giving rise to the appreciation of design in everyday life aesthetics.

Furniture with smooth lines, lamps by Paavo Tynell and Tapio Wirkkala, as well as other design gems bring together an interior, which depicts the period’s modernistic spirit in a beautiful fashion.
