Visitors can get to know the traditional Finnish way of life in the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum, which is easily accessible from the heart of Helsinki. The idyllic island houses around 90 traditional buildings transferred from all over Finland. The furnished and equipped museum buildings provide a view into the lives of people in the past.
A stroll around the beautiful green island reveals the Finnish construction and living culture from the 17th to the 20th century. The northernmost buildings come from Lapland, and the southernmost ones represent Uusimaa. The buildings depict both geographic and social differences in historical Finland. On the journey to the past, the visitors learn about the life in crofts as well as fine manors.
Linguistically adept guides wearing traditional outfits describe life in the centuries past. Seurasaari also offers work performances and various events. Café Antin Kaffeliiteri welcomes visitors to enjoy a cup of coffee. Other products such as books and traditional handicrafts can be bought in a cosy museum boutique located in an old country shop building.
