Porlammi Museum’s collections are housed in four different buildings in a granary area, with open exhibition space in three of the buildings. The granary area is a consistent whole, originally formed to accommodate the village’s needs and constituting an integral part of the village scenery with its roads. It comprises the old granary, a village forge and a two-bus garage from the 1930s, later used as a forge. Only the wagon shed, now used as a storage space, has been moved in from the centre of the village and enlarged into a shed from a shop’s salt storeroom.
Behind the granary is a former bog pond that has been dug out and replaced with a campfire site. The old privy, with sheet metal walls but still usable, the milk platform and the old snow ploughs have been brought in from elsewhere. The idyllic milieu is enhanced by other old buildings around the area.
Each building contains appropriate items: machinery, furniture, household utensils, shoes, tools and equipment used by various professionals as well as horse-drawn vehicles.
