In the attractive art nouveau style district of Katajanokka is Päivikki and Sakari Sohlberg’s Home Museum, exhibiting a wealthy bourgeois home of the 20th century. The beautifully furnished dwelling contains furniture from the art nouveau period, romantic masonry stoves and plenty of art.
The home of Päivikki and Sakari Sohlberg, both influential figures within the legal circles, has been intended to remain as it was when the couple was alive. It exhibits a layered home, built up with joint acquisitions, gifts and items inherited from their childhood homes.
The gems of the art collection include paintings by Albert Edelfelt, Hjalmar Munsterhjelm and Antti Favén. The homely apartment contains souvenirs and small objects collected over the years. The large grand piano of the home, genuine oriental rugs and nationalistic hanging rugs illustrate the occupants’ desire to cherish culture and traditions.
