The straight-backed desks, ink bottles and blackboards of the Nukari School Museum tell the pupil’s story from the end of the 19th century up until the introduction of the comprehensive school system.
The first grammar school of Nurmijärvi opened in Nukari in 1873 when Matilda Adlercreutz, the lady of the nearby Raala Manor, decided to set up a school. The lady considered it important that even the estate’s tenants’, workmen’s’ and tenant farmers’ children had the opportunity to become educated and cultivated.
The beautiful sheet metal stove, blackboard and picture row of presidents in the classroom bring back the atmosphere of the old village school. Test your posture by sitting upright in the two-seat desk or try your arithmetic skills with the nostalgic pearl abacus!
While visiting the School Museum, you can also explore the nearby Nukarinkoski river, a well-known outing and fishing destination.
