The former private residence of Doctor Juhani Kirpilä in Töölö houses his private collection of Finnish art. The collection includes paintings by renowned artists, such as Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Ellen Thesleff, Eero Nelimarkka and Åke Mattas, as well as sculptures by Wäinö Aaltonen and Kain Tapper.
Licentiate of Medicine Juhani Kirpilä (1931–1988) bought Maria Wiik’s pastel work with his first paycheck in the early 1950s. This acquisition marked the beginning of a collection including some of the most significant Finnish artists with art from the late 19th century all the way to the 1970s. In addition to figurative art, the collection showcases sculptures, graphics, aquarelles and sketches, as well as a small collection of Russian porcelain.
The cosy apartment has been maintained in its original form. In addition to the artwork, the Kirpilä Art Collection functions as a venue for concerts and public lectures on arts.
