Near downtown Kerava lies a yellow peasant house that depicts the typical form of housing in the Uusimaa region from the mid-19th century to the 1930s. The exhibition tells the story of a family that has lived in Heikkilänmäki since the mid-16th century, as well as the later periods of their residence.
The old countryside house has been decorated with the museum’s collections in accordance with the evolution of the habitation. The baking oven and the loom tell the story of the wealthy peasants during a time when almost everything could be produced at the farm. True to the trend of the late 19th century, the furniture of the salon is Neo-Rococo with wallpapers decorating the walls.
In the following century, the main building and the land was leased, as there was no one in the family to take over the farm. The stove room with its modest decoration depicts the life of the tenant family.
