Explore Alvar Aalto’s home and the life of this iconic architect!
In 1935, Aino and Alvar Aalto purchased a plot of land in natural surroundings in Munkkiniemi and began to design their home in Helsinki. The architect couple’s cosy and intimate residence and studio was completed in 1936.
The house is divided into a workspace used by Alvar Aalto’s architectural firm and the couple’s private residence. Simple and natural materials soften the design language of the building’s modern architecture. Aalto’s office was located in this building until 1955.
The museum shop on the premises sells books on Alvar Aalto as well as a carefully curated selection of design products. The museum shop has the same opening hours as the Aalto House.
Alvar Aalto Museum has a total of four museum locations open to the public in Jyväskylä and Helsinki.
