Enjoy a glimpse of life in the 1970s and learn about Finland’s post-war history at Tamminiemi Villa, a beautiful park estate that was President Urho Kekkonen’s official residence during his term in office.
Recently reopened after an extensive renovation project that took two and a half years, Tamminiemi Villa features 1970s interiors, conserved using state-of-the-art methods, in a quaint setting that exemplifies Art Nouveau architecture. The exhibitions and guided tours cover not only the 25-year term of President Urho Kekkonen, but also the earlier periods when the villa was home to Risto Ryti and C. G. Mannerheim during their presidencies.
Tamminiemi Villa’s kitchen areas are now newly open to the public, in addition to all the rooms that were part of the museum prior to its temporary closure. The renovation has also greatly improved the museum’s accessibility by introducing full wheelchair access to all exhibition areas.
Visitors to the Urho Kekkonen Museum Tamminiemi can enjoy a wide variety of attractions ranging from the museum and its many exhibitions to concerts and matinees. The stylish and modern Café Adjutantti and the museum shop are located in an ancillary building. The villa also has facilities that can be rented for private use, namely the museum auditorium, the conference room on the second floor and Finland’s most famous seaside sauna.
