The welcoming wooden villa in the Kaivopuisto district of Helsinki provides a unique insight into Marshal Mannerheim himself and the Finnish history. The entrance fee includes an almost hour-long guided tour in the home decorated by the marshal himself.
Mannerheim moved to the villa in 1924 and lived there until his death in 1951. The original decor is a combination of Spartan asceticism, period furniture and exotic souvenirs and hunting trophies.
A medal collection and the marshal’s staffs talk about a career as a soldier and statesman. And stuffed animal skulls and Tibetan Buddhist paintings in the home are reminders of his many travels and hunting trips.
The museum has a photograph archive and a small museum shop. Close by is the coffee shop of the Cygnaeus Gallery that is open during the summer season.
