The Museum of Technology, located in Helsinki’s Vanhankaupunginkoski in the Arabia district, describes the development of technology and industry in Finland. The memorable exhibition represents the story of how an agrarian society became a leading developer of high technology in the global marketplace.
The largest technical specialist museum in Finland provides visitors with a view of a historical mining environment as well as a cabin of a cruise ship. The museum’s interactive points allow visitors to make a phone call through the traditional call centre, examine a pocket sander or marvel at the history of elevators while taking a ride on a nostalgic passenger elevator. The museum’s fascinating objects include a crushed Fiat 127 demonstrating the efficiency of recycling, as well as the first Finnish-made computer ESKO.
The museum offers temporary exhibitions, tours, mobile services and educational trails, encouraging the visitors to experience technology’s impact on our lives in a creative way. One of the museum’s novelties includes a mobile phone game that teaches the player about the history of innovations while testing their innovative skills.
The adjacent Voimala Museum is open during the summer.
