A charming wooden villa is located by Tuusula Lake Road, built by the poet and leading cultural figure J. H. Erkko around 1900. Named Erkkola, the building is one of the famous Tuusula Lake Road artists’ homes situated around Lake Tuusulanjärvi.
 
J. H. Erkko (1849–1906) was a central cultural figure in late 19th-century Finland. A poet, playwright and journalist, Erkko was also a strong advocate of culture.
 
J. H. Erkko’s memory is cherished at Erkkola, which, following his lead, is an arena for a diverse range of activities of cultural and social importance. The house features concerts, club nights, theatre, workshops for children and exhibitions from the Tuusula’s Museums of Modern Art and Illustrative Art. Multidisciplinary and experiential arts flourish at Erkkola!
