Walking in through the doors of the main building, some two hundred years old, this family farm in Tuusula comes alive. In the summer, geraniums bloom on the porch and the wood stove is burning in the kitchen.
In the hall, everything is a touch more refined. The table has been set with porcelain tableware with their blue decoration, and the square piano along the wall is waiting for a player. The telephone can be heard ringing in the radio room.
Klaavola’s interior design oozes with the spirit of the 1920s–1940s. At that time, the house was occupied by the Collin family, who in the period between the World Wars made their living by tending cattle and cultivating about 30 hectares of field.
Traditionally, peasants held significant positions around Tuusula as the manors in the area were weak. The history of Klaavola extends centuries back, including the time it was a horse farm.
The museum visitor may peek into life on a wealthy farm, with the nearby granaries, milk room, vehicle shed and sauna.
