Spread across three floors, the permanent exhibitions in the Commandant’s House are annually supplemented with several special exhibitions. The artefacts date mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries, and most of the Gustavian furniture and the pewter and silver objects were produced locally. The collection is augmented by two workshops with goldsmith and pewter foundry tools and moulds.

Life in the 19th century is depicted by memories from the time when Loviisa had a spa visited by many Russians as well as the Sibelius family, with Jean Sibelius performing for other guests.

The permanent exhibition also features items from the sail-ship era. At times, the museum exhibits items related to the town’s maritime history and the Svartholm fortress.
