Experience the summer idyll of one of Finland’s smallest museums! Step into the tiny cottage where a coffee grinder, Primus stove, storm lantern and many other items tell of life lived decades ago.
The Vallila Allotment Garden Museum familiarises visitors with working-class summer life in Helsinki in the 1930s, when the allotment was established. The museum cottage is the only summer hut in Vallila that has preserved the original spirit, in the cottage and within the plot.
An old pitchfork, plough and many gardening tools date back to an era when the importance of vegetable gardening was heightened. The incredibly verdant plot allows visitors to observe the growth of the apple tree and berry bushes and the blossoming of traditional flowers like musk mallow and hybrid peony.
