Take a trip to the ancient handicraft area and learn about the life and handicraft professions of centuries past!

The late 18th century saw the rise of handicraft in Mäntsälä’s Hirvivaara, where artisans lived and worked as recently as the early 20th century. Today, the area has an outdoor museum showcasing many original artisans’ huts, as well as similar huts transferred from elsewhere in Mäntsälä.

Sepänmäki opens doors to the worlds of carpenters, weavers, cuppers and other artisans.  The interior of the huts and the adjacent workspaces depict the life and work of the artisans.

The atmosphere of the charming outdoor museum is enhanced by small, gnarly paths between the huts, as well as traditional decorative and edible plants. The site also serves as a location for handicraft exhibitions, countryside markets and numerous other events. Visitors can relax and enjoy the warm rustic atmosphere of the museum with a cup of coffee at the Koskela coffeehouse.
