The Valvilla Wool Mill Museum is situated in the parklike inner courtyard of the Hyvinkää Wool Mill. The former fire equipment storehouse reveals how wool was transformed into fabric and yarn. The machinery, products made in the wool spinning mill and photographs depicting the working life and workers in the factory halls all ooze nostalgia.
The wool mill established by engineer Ossian Donner in 1892 gave rise to the growth of the town of Hyvinkää. For nearly a hundred years, the wool mill and the related textile factories were known as the largest and most versatile manufacturers of wool fabrics in Finland.
In addition to the traditions of industrial fabric manufacture, the museum displays the local history of Hyvinkää. There are photographs and films about the town on display. The archive of the Valvilla Wool Mill Museum has an extensive amount of information about textile industry in Hyvinkää.
Hyvinkää City Museum’s temporary exhibitions are located in the Villan voimala exhibition hall in the adjacent building.
